Bread Machine Supplies
Healthy Choices for Bread Machines
The right bread can make the simplest dinner a gourmet treat or dress up any dinner party. It's just a matter of having the right bread machine supplies on hand so you are ready to put your bread machine to work at a moment's notice. Bread flour is a must, but you should consider keeping other flours on hand. To keep leftover flour extra-fresh, wrap the package in butcher paper, then in a plastic bag, and store in your freezer.
- Wheat flour or organic whole grain spelt - has a nutty flavor and is high in fiber and protein
- Wheat flour or organic whole grain kamut - has a sweet flavor and is high in protein, lipids, vitamins, and minerals
- Rye flour or organic whole grain rye
Bread-Machine Necessities Almost every bread recipe uses these items. Replenish these bread-machine supplies regularly. Most have a long shelf life. - Crisco, olive oil, butter, or margarine
- Yeast: jars are less expensive than packets; bulk is the most economic
- Dough enhancers: pre-packaged to give your bread dough a boost
- Vital wheat gluten: makes a lighter loaf of wheat bread
- Fresh milk, powdered milk, powdered buttermilk, sugar, honey, and salt
- Fresh eggs and egg substitutes
